Altrua Health Share is not insurance, but a health sharing ministry (Altrua Ministries), that has been in existence since 1999 and is a recognized Health Care Sharing Ministry (HCSM) with CMS, exempting its members from the penalties of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

PHCS Network Through MultiPlan

Altrua HealthShare includes the PHCS Network through MultiPlan, Inc., which offers members:

  • Broad access to 223,113 primary care providers, 89,444 ancillary providers and 660,047 specialists

  • Negotiated discounts that result in significant cost savings when they visit in-network providers, helping to maximize their shared services. A PHCS logo on the ID card tells both the Provider that a PHCS discount applies

  • Assurance they are choosing their healthcare provider from a high-quality network. MultiPlan applies rigorous criteria when credentialing providers for participation in the PHCS Network

  • Altrua operates under a Statement of Standards — NOT a Statement of Faith (see next slide).
  • Altrua is not tied to a specific religious background, but is faith based.
  • Altrua allows individuals of shared faiths to be eligible for membership.
  • Altrua can be offered to prospective members nationwide. (U.S. citizenship is not a requirement to be part of the Altrua HealthShare membership.)
  • Member needs are paid from an escrow account, not individually.
  • Membership contributions are often 35-50% less than traditional medical insurance plans.

Members can enroll year-round through the enrollment site.

  • Head of Household – The oldest member in the household.  Age range 30 days – 64 years on the date of membership enrollment.
  • Spouse An individual who is legally married to a person of the opposite sex, up to 64yearsold (Civil Union/Common Law are not accepted).
  • Dependent Child(ren)–Legally dependent child(ren ) who are unmarried through age 22. (At age 23, child(ren) can apply for their own membership.)
  • Newborns – A child who is over 30 days old may be added
